Gary Bettman just confirmed a major rumor involving the Chicago Blackhawks organization
Danny Wirtz and the Chicago Blackhawks debatably failed the launch of the CHSN, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is confident the team will resolve it soon.
The launch of the
Chicago Sports Network was troubled from the start. It launched prematurely without solving major issues along the way, like resolving carriage fee issues with Comcast, and would result in the RSN having to launch its own sports app.
After freezing their fans unintentionally ouf ot watching the Blackhawks the majority of the season, Gary Bettman made an announcement on the
CHSN.
It sounds encouraging, as if Danny Wirtz and the team will finally take care of fans' pain points this year.
Last we knew, the CHSN was in discussion with WGN, as the TV network was interested in airing Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bulls games.
Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that «WGN TV is interested in carrying local sports again and believes there's a path to air Chicago Sports Network broadcasts of the White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks that much of the area has missed.»
Given that the issues with Comcast seem to persist, we hope Gary Bettman's words are honest, as fans deserve to be able to see their team without a subscription to a streaming service.
WGN could be the knight in shining armor, which Bettman isn't mentioning at all in this scenario.
Either way, it'd win back a lot of good graces from Blackhawks fans who have seen better days of Blackhawks hockey.
And what better way to kick off the youth movement in 2025-2026 than with a new broadcast deal?
