The hopes of an NHL comeback for a former Chicago Blackhawks forward are officially down the drain.
Dominik Kubalik, a former Chicago Blackhawks forward who broke out in his rookie year in the 2019-20 season with 46 points in 68 games, has officially signed a two-year deal to play hockey in Switzerland's National League team, EV Zug.
His contract is interesting, though; it does contain an NHL clause if he receives an offer.
The 29-year forward last played with the Ottawa Senators in the 2023-24 season, where he managed to post career-low numbers of 11 goals and 4 assists in 74 games.
He finished with a plus/minus rating of -30 and that would ultimately be the end of his hopeful NHL career as teams would not be interested in his services during free agency that summer.
He was left with no other decision than to return to Switzerland on a one-year deal with HC Ambri-Piotta, the team he was with before signing with the Blackhawks in 2019.
Kubalik appears to have found his offensive footing once again while playing overseas, tallying up 27 goals, 22 assists, and 49 points in 52 games to lead his team this past season.
He could very well still land an NHL offer this summer, but if not, he's got his next year lined up with Zug.
