Former Chicago Blackhawks fan favorite officially signs a new contract
Lausanne HC announced the signing in a
press release on Monday, confirming the 30-year old longtime NHL veteran will be heading their way.
Born in Pickering, Ont., Caggiula is still under contract with
the Edmonton Oilers for the remainder of this season, raising questions on how a signing agreement has already been met.
In this past season, the former Blackhawk only appeared in seven games with Edmonton, recording a lone assist while averaging 7:18. of ice time throughout that span.
He has spent most of the season with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League, tallying up 52 points in a 62-game span with the Oilers' affiliate this past season.
In December of 2018, Caggiula was
traded by the Oilers along with Jason Garrison to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Brandon Manning and Robin Norell.
The veteran has spent his career in North America with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks and the Edmonton Oilers' NHL and AHL clubs.
"We are very pleased to welcome Drake to Lausanne. He is an experienced player with a solid track record in the American leagues. Beyond his offensive skills and intensity on the ice, he will bring true leadership to the locker room . "
It will be interesting to see how Caggiula adjusts to Swiss-pro hockey, and certainly a storyline to follow if the pro will return to North America after his one year deal with Lausanne.
