Former Chicago Blackhawk lands contract with the Boston Bruins

The Chicago Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson sent former 11th overall pick, Victor Soderstrom, to Boston yesterday.

Victor Soderstrom quickly put the ink to paper, as Don Sweeney made it a point to sign their newest depth defenseman to a league-minimum, $775K contract with the Bruins.

He'll wear the spoked-B, if he's lucky enough, as his contract is a two-way deal that pays him $350K in the minors.

Soderstrom was acquired by Kyle Davidson as part of the Shea Weber package, along with Aku Raty.

The Swedish defenseman has spent all of 2024-2025 in the SHL playing with Brynas IF, but the Blackhawks traded for his rights and flipped him for Ryan Mast and a 7th-round draft pick.

In 49 games with Brynas IF he scored 37 points (9-28), and has only a total of 53 games played in the NHL, scoring only 11 points (1-10), all of them with the Arizona Coyotes.

Soderstrom was pushed out to the depth the Blackhawks have in the AHL, with Kyle Davidson's vision of the Blackhawks taking form. Now, he'll get a fresh start in Providence with the Bruins, who have a prospect pipeline which is lacking actual NHL prospects and talent.

The Bruins could end up finding a spot for him as they're in the midst of a retool and have begun a teardown of the lineup. We've seen them send Brandon Carlo away, along with Charlie Coyle and other key players in the lineup.

Now, it's Soderstrom's turn to prove he's just not a depth player, but an NHLer.
