After the latest round of NHL roster cuts, a former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman has found himself up for grabs on the waiver wire.
Dennis Gilbert, who was taken 91st overall by the Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, was put on waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers, his latest NHL team.
He's also played for the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, and Buffalo Sabres. He was part of the
Brandon Saad deal with the Colorado Avalanche that sent Saad away from the Blackhawks for the 2nd time in his career.
The first time
Saad returned was in the infamous
Artemi Panarin deal, which Blackhawks fans still consider one of the worst in team history.
Gilbert has 20 points (3G, 17A) in 111 career NHL games, and if he wants to continue his career in hockey's best league, he'll have to hope that someone claims him, or else he'll be sent back down to the AHL.
The Blackhawks are projected to miss the playoffs again this year
But even despite those additions, most projections have the Blackhawks missing the playoffs by a considerable margin again.
Connor Bedard, who hasn't played a single playoff game in the NHL in his career, could eventually start getting restless and want to join a winning team, but he'll have a major decision to make as he's entering the last year of his current contract and will need a new one.
