Emotional behind the scenes video coverage was caught following the last game in the careers of Chicago's Alec Martinez and Pat Maroon.
The NHL careers of both Pat Maroon and Alec Martinez, both of whom who played this year for the Chicago Blackhawks, has come to a close.
They both announced their retirement from the NHL and got to play the final home game of their respective careers at United Center on April 12, a 5-4 S/O loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Cameras caught an emotional embrace between the two during the contest:
Maroon said that he was glad he got to share his final home game of his career with Martinez, even though they only spent a lone year as teammates.
It sucks, because this is all we knew. And I'm so happy that I got to share it with Marty tonight. A guy that's a big-time player, scored big-time goals. Hell of a hockey player, competitor.
For Connor Bedard, it was a pleasure to play with a veteran like Maroon.
He's been awesome. Such an enjoyable person to be around. Obviously, his experience in the league ... he can teach us a lot of things. But I think just the laughs he brings and energy he brings to the room, he's just a guy that everyone wants to be around.
Both players have 6 Stanley Cups between them; Maroon enjoyed a 3-peat with the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning from 2019 through 2021, while Martinez won Cups with the Kings (2012, 2014) and Vegas Golden Knights (2023).
