After leaving the Chicago Blackhawks, Corey Perry found a new home with the Edmonton Oilers, as an UFA will he be re-signing with GM Stan Bowman and the team in July?
Corey Perry has been a part of the last two Oilers teams that have made the postseason. Last year, the curse lived on as
Connor McDavid and the Oilers failed to de-claw the Panthers in order to win the NHL's ultimate prize.
Now, the former
Blackhawk forward has once again found himself in a similar role. But the question we ponder is, past July, will he still be wearing Oilers colors in October?
During the 2025 playoffs, Perry has stayed relevant as a depth goal-scoring option, posting 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in 4 games with the Oilers.
As a former Stanley Cup winner, the once-skilled forward, now grinder, knows what it takes to win.
Perry is known for his gritty style of play late in his career, and took advantage of that in front of the Los Angeles Kings' net. He'd screen Kuemper, all the while causing chaos in front of the net, keeping defenseman
Drew Doughty busy.
His linemate,
Leon Draisaitl, would heap praise on the almost 40-year-old forward, complimenting his ability to see the ice and utilize that to benefit the Oilers.
I honestly feel like he could play until he's 50, just because of his brain. We'll see if the boots keep up there, but, he's just a gamer.
The 39-year-old forward still has plenty left in the tank to help the Oilers, or the next squad Perry signs with. Though, if he continues to take a discount to play for the team it's difficult to see GM Stan Bowman passing up signing him for another season in Oilers colors.
He's rightfully earned another year in the NHL, whether it's with the Oilers or another team that loves to collect veterans like infinity stones.
Though Perry's true endgame could be one last Stanley Cup before he calls it quits, and with the help of Leon Draisaitl, that could become a reality.
This season,
Perry made $1.15 million AAV suiting up for the Oilers, and adding a veteran presence in the lineup.
