Edmonton Oilers complete trade call with the Chicago Blackhawks as they inquire about Lukas Reichel

The Edmonton Oilers are one of multiple NHL teams that have made a phone call to general manager Kyle Davidson involving a trade and to inquire about the availability of Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel, who was a Stan Bowman draft pick.
The Chicago Blackhawks have placed former 1st-round pick Lukas Reichel on the trade block this week.
In that period, there have been multiple NHL teams that have inquired about the availability and cost of the former 17th overall pick.
He was originally drafted by GM Stan Bowman, which would explain the reason for the Oilers to see what he could bring to Bowman's next organization, which is lacking meaningful depth in the lineup, as they try to get younger.
An RFA contract is attractive to general managers, as the players remain under team control and could fetch a nice return for some players. However, for Reichel, it's uncertain what will happen with him now.
NHL Insiders Talk About A Possible Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks Trade
The Chicago Blackhawks believe that Lukas Reichel needs a fresh start in the NHL after his inability to claim a spot in the top six on a rebuilding roster. The German forward, who makes $1.2 million AAV, has played 169 games in the NHL all with the Blackhawks and scored 54 points (20-34).
As someone who was pegged as a future superstar in the NHL and hasn't panned out, Kyle Davidson has been shopping him to teams like the Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks, and Vancouver Canucks.
However, it appears that NHL Insider Mark Spector believes that the Oilers could provide the same kind of new opportunity they gave Vasily Podkolzin.
But in contrast, Jim Matheson announced the Oilers have kicked the tires on the former 1st-round pick. If so, it's difficult to see where Reichel will end up, without any of the three teams mentioned making an offer on the pending restricted free agent.
Is this going to end up with Reichel becoming a free agent when the team doesn't give him a qualifying offer?
