Chicago Cubs fans got a treat, as Duncan Keith threw out the first pitch at today's game, with Blackhawks defenseman Chris Chelios and Connor Murphy in attendance.
Today was the Crosstown Classic, a game between two rivals, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. A series that started in 1997 and has only boiled over as time continues, both teams playing 140 games in total, with the White Sox holding a lead over the Cubs.
But the Cubs had backup today, in
Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith, who threw out the first pitch to fire up the rivalry today.
Keith, is a rockstar to Chicago sports fans. He helped bring three-Stanley Cups to Chicago and will be remembered as a legend here.
Today was the opening game of the series, which saw him stroll out wearing Cubs colors.
Keith wasn't the only legend there, as he had reinforcements in Chris Chelios, and
Connor Murphy below.
Since he retired from hockey, he joined the Edmonton Oilers front office in 2022 as a player development consultant. Though in the NHL he may be far from Chicago, but gestures like these show the love he has for the fans here has never died.
Keith played the majority of his career with the Blackhawks, a total of 1,256 games, and only 64 of those with the Oilers.
Keith has seen many NHL All-Star Games in 2008, 2011, 2015, and 2017.
With the Blackhawks in attendance, the Cubs were overpowered and defeated the lowly White Sox, 13-3 in a devastating finish.
