Despite being at the top of the wishlist of the Chicago Blackhawks for their head coaching vacancy, University of Denver coach David Carle has made his decision.
The Chicago Blackhawks once again missed the postseason after going through an extremely difficult year, which included the firing of coach Luke Richardson.
GM Kyle Davidson promoted Rockford IceHogs coach Anders Sorenson to the role on an interim basis for the rest of the season; he went 17-30-9 while becoming the 1st Swedish-born head coach in NHL history.
And while the door hasn't closed completely on Sorenson's chances of becoming the new full-time head coach of Chicago, they had serious hopes to land University of Denver head coach David Carle.
Unfortunately for them, Carle
took his name out of the running for consideration. Not only that, but he also did the same for any other NHL club that was thinking about trying to entice him.
Carle has signed a multi-year extension to remain with the Pioneers.
Carle
released the following statement:
I am grateful for Chancellor Jeremy Haefner, Chairman John Miller as well as the entire Board of Trustees and Vice Chancellor of Athletics Josh Berlo for their continued support of and investment in Denver hockey to ensure we maintain our position as the best college program in the country. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with our student-athletes, coaches, administration, alumni, supporters and fans over the coming seasons. Denver is home for me and my family.
On the job since 2018, Carle has gone 179-74-17 while leading the Pioneers to the national championship in both 2022 and 2024. He's also enjoyed international success, leading the American squad to consecutive World Junior titles in 2024 and 2025.
