Chicago Blackhawks experience substantial setback in head coaching search
According to Chicago Blackhawks report Ben Pope of the Chicago Suntimes, general manager Kyle Davidson has experienced a large setback in his current head coaching search.
According to Ben Pope, the Blackhawks had their eyes set on Carle and believed he was the perfect candidate that they were looking for, which lead to Kyle Davidson to close the door on other opportunities involving free agent coaches around the NHL.
Which was ultimately a mistake..
The Hawks believed they had identified someone who checked all of the aforementioned boxes in David Carle, and the rest of the hockey world believed the same.
But Carle's decision to decline the Hawks' reportedly aggressive offer - before signing, on Monday a multi-year extension to stay at the University of Denver - reopened the Hawks search.
That wasn't the only setback that the Blackhawks faced during their journey while trying to sign David Carle, who would ultimately refuse a contract with Chicago, but the Blackhawks also missed out on head coach Mike Sullivan, who became a free agent throughout this duration.
According to Davidson, his phone is practically blowing up with coaches interested in the Blackhawks' head coaching vacant position:
Davidson said Monday that «based on the reaction in my phone every day, it's an appealing job.» He added he's «constantly getting in front of people and making sure that no stone is left unturned» in the search. Nothing has leaked, however, in terms of whom the Hawks have interviewed or prioritized since Carle's heel-turn.
It'll be an interesting couple of weeks, and Blackhawks fans can only continue sitting tight and leaving their trust in the hands of Kyle Davidson.
