We may never see one Blackhawks defenseman's face in the United Center again, as Kyle Davidson could end up buying out TJ Brodie this offseason.
According to Daily Faceoff,
TJ Brodie of the Chicago Blackhawks is a buyout candidate for the team this offseason.
Brodie has one year left, with $3.75 million AAV to be paid on his deal with the team. With the influx of blue liners from Rockford and prospects trickling into the system, it seems it's time for some of the placeholders to leave the facility.
And
Brodie may be the first to be asked to exit the building.
He had a disappointing year this season in Chicago; he'd been a healthy scratch since March 1st and had his spot taken on the team by
Wyatt Kaiser near the end of the year.
He'd only play a total of 54 games with the Hawks this season and score 10 points (2-8), and while this isn't about a salary cap savings by philosophy, it's about crowding.
He could find himself on the hunt for a new home in July, as the Blackhawks could add more meaningful prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Buying out Brodie would be a 2-year process, paying him $3.25 million the first year, and $258K the second.
Brodie was brought in to help mentor the young blueliners and offer some stability and leadership, but how can you do that when you can't even crack the lineup?
For Kyle Davidson and the Hawks, they should part ways and let him find a new home in the NHL.
