The Chicago Blackhawks have trimmed the training camp roster against today, as they have sent goalie Mitchell Weeks to the Rockford IceHogs.

Weeks played one preseason game with the Blackhawks against the Detroit Red Wings, where he'd give up two goals, and earn a .667 save percentage for the night.

Before the preseason, the Chicago Blackhawks gave Weeks a two-year deal, after splitting time between the ECHL's Indy Fuel, and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.

"Mitchell is an exciting young goalie prospect who has played very well in his AHL opportunities, and we're looking forward to watch his development over the next couple of years," said IceHogs President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Mark Bernard. "His attitude and work ethic are fantastic, and he has made great strides in his first two seasons in our organization."

The last two preseason games, saw Arvid Soderblom and Petr Mrazek get starts over Weeks.

It seems he will continue to develop his skills in the AHL, as he joins Drew Commesso and Arvid Soderblom in Rockford's net.

Weeks posted his first AHL shutout on January 12th and won three starts in December after his call-up.

The Barrie, Ontario native also earned a 15-10-6-1 record with Indy last season to go along with a 2.75 GAA and .898 SV%. After allowing just two goals in a two-game stretch, he was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 12-18. In the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs with Indy, Weeks went 1-3 with a 2.55 GAA and .882 SV%.

Weeks has had a strong showing during his 2nd year with the Rockford IceHogs as he continues to be a prospect the Blackhawks could depend upon in the future, as a call-up or potential third.

«I feel like my second year, I'm a little more confident now,» said Weeks following practice Wednesday. «But yeah, it's all the same guys, a lot of the same stuff, so I'm comfortable here and trying to play with more confidence in my second year.»
