A major turn of events surface in Seth Jones' departure from the Chicago Blackhawks
Nashville Predators gear up for active 2025 NHL trade deadline, and their former fourth overall draft selection Seth Jones, is available on the market.
In 2013, the Nashville Predators drafted Seth Jones fourth overall in the draft and just three years later, he was dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for center Ryan Johansen, another fourth overall selection; in 2010.
After 6 years in Columbus, Jones was dealt to the Blackhawks, and the Blue Jackets truly scored big. They acquired
Adam Boqvist, the 12th overall pick in 2021 (used to draft
Cole Sillinger), a second round pick in 2021, and Chicago's 2022 first-round pick, which ended up being a juicy sixth-overall selection in
David Jiricek.
Jones appears to be eyeing his fourth NHL organization as a 30-year old defenseman, or will be be returning to his old roots?
Several reports confirm the Chicago Blackhawks are actively shopping the aging blueliner, with a whopping $9.5 million AAV, and insider Darren Dreger of TSN offers insight
"But look, he's a quality defenceman, and yes, teams are calling and they're asking about Seth Jones' availability. So it's going to be something that we have to continue to watch as Kyle Davidson, again, puts some form of stamp in this fight to the rebuild of the Chicago Blackhawks."
With roughly 5.5 years remaining on his large contract, the Nashville Predators and their jaw-dropping $29 million in projected cap space when the trade deadline approaches, are linked as a suitor for Jones.
Both organizations could benefit from a deal involving Seth Jones, who has not seen a playoff game since 2020 in his days with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Chicago does not have a real, true reason, to keep Seth Jones. His contract is making it much harder for the organization to offload, but that doesn't apply to one of the oldest teams in the NHL; the Nashville Predators.
March 7, 2025, is Seth Jones' due date with the Chicago Blackhawks as it marks the NHL trade deadline. Until then, buckle up Blackhawks fans!
