The Chicago Blackhawks starting goalie Spencer Knight issued an emotional statement on Connor Bedard's controversy on whether he'd stick with the team or ask Kyle Davidson for an out before he hits RFA status.

Connor Bedard is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2025-2026 season. During the latter part of the season, we had to endure many NHL personalities cautioning Bedard against re-signing with the Blackhawks, including Elliotte Friedman.
All the while, Bedard would finally push back on the narrative that he's unhappy here. Even after a record of 25-46-11, and 8th in the Central.
While we never can take the words of a high-caliber player at face value, considering the kind of leverage they command, goalie Spencer Knight is different.
In an interview with RG, Spencer Knight would get into the dirty details of how Bedard feels about Chicago at the moment.
«He loves it here, and he wants to grow with this team and help as much as he can. Is he frustrated at times? Of course he is! We all are, and that's because we care. But just because he looks frustrated or acts that way, that's normal. You want him to care like that. He knows he can be better at times, and he wants to be better, like I said before.»
Who can blame Bedard for being frustrated and looking dejected on the bench after taking his 2nd game misconduct in a row?
It seemed like an opportune time for NHL Insiders to jump on the bandwagon chorus of "don't sign here", all the while, the rest of the Blackhawks' top prospects trickle into the lineup and give us some exciting hockey at the end of the year.
Spencer Knight sounds like he's fully bought into the Blackhawks as a team, and looks forward to Bedard leading them into the future with his recent interview in with RG's Jimmy Murphy.
Now, it's just a matter of finding the right head coach to lead the way.
