Thanks to Jonathan Toews, the
Chicago Blackhawks were able to ward off elimination. In game 5 of a series against the Detroit Red Wings, Toews overcame a massive scoring drought to lead the way.
Toews would score a power-play goal, which would inspire the team to keep pounding away at the Red Wings.
Afterwards, a flood of offense would overwhelm both the Red Wings and Jimmy Howard. The Blackhawks would win 4-1 that night.
His previous goal of the night was waved off, due to the fact he was lying in the crease while trying to clean up a loose puck.
Toews would find other ways of contributing to the Blackhawks' comeback that night, including his goal and drawing a penalty, which Andrew Shaw would score on a power play (his first of two that night).
On May 25th, 2013, Toews would score 1 goal, on 2 shots, contributing 1 hit, playing 31 shifts, and 20:33 TOI that night.
Clutch is no better word to describe Toews's performance.
The Blackhawks would take the cue and demolish the Red Wings' hopes of a victory, only allowing Dennis Cleary to score a goal.
This allowed the Blackhawks to regain control of the series, forcing a Game 6, which was a must-win for the Red Wings.
2013 was another year where the team's dominant dynasty couldn't be stopped, and this game solidified their resilience in the playoffs.
