It looks like the Chicago Blackhawks are gearing up to part ways with a handful of prospects whose rights expire on July 1.
It's going to be an important summer for the Chicago Blackhawks and general manager Kyle Davidson, who has already announced that the club has hired Jeff Blashill as their new full-time head coach.
And while they've been linked to Toronto Maple Leafs pending UFA forward
Mitch Marner, it looks as though they're going to be parting ways with several prospects that are set to have their negotiating rights expire on July 1.
The list of prospects includes Alex Pharand, who was taken with the 99th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks; he played this year with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, scoring 59 points (17G, 42A) in 65 games played.
Alex Pharand plays a straight-forward, disciplined game: High energy backchecking, physical forechecking, proactive defensive zone positioning, and intelligent off-puck routes in the offensive zone. Pharand chains pass receptions with dekes and shots. Hesitation moves and handling fake freeze defenders, which he often uses to prepare passing lanes. He overwhelms opponents along the boards, escapes, then drives the inside.
Marcel was taken with the 131st overall pick by the Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and played this year with their AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs, scoring just 13 points (5G, 8A) in 41 games.
Stjernborg was taken with the 108th pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks and played in the SHL this year with the Växjö Lakers HC, scoring 9 points (3G, 6A) in 37 games.
Finally, Oscarson was taken with the 167th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and played in the SHL this year with Orebro HK.
