Blackhawks Captain, Jonathan Toews, has been absent from both practice and games for over a week now. Toews was labeled with a non-Covid illness, but there is not much clarity in regards to what the illness is. There has been some speculation regarding the «illness» Toews has, but nothing has been confirmed.
Later on, some clarity was provided by Mark Lazerus from The Athletic regarding Toews status. He stated that Toews is still back in Chicago, working out. Richardson also mentioned there's a possibility that «Toews could play tomorrow, but he is most likely out against Montreal and Toronto.»
Toews is much older now than he was when the Hawks were making their yearly playoff runs, so the extra rest is nothing but beneficial for him. Or perhaps Toews has been battling an illness and has needed this much time to recover from it. At the end of the day, we all hope Toews recovers and it'll be interesting to see what moves are made at the trade deadline regarding Toews future in Chicago.
