Steven Stamkos Could Be In Trouble After Throwing Fit

The Tampa Bay Lightning were knocked off their thrones Sunday night by the hands of the new kings of hockey the Colorado Avalanche.

All though the season is over Tampa Bay Lightning's Captain Steven Stamkos could be possibly looking at a suspension after firing a puck of the Officials. The incident occured in the second period after Stamkos teammate Ryan Mcdonaugh would get a penalty for boarding.

After they blew the whistle, Stamkos lost his cool and fired the puck at the the official who made the call Gord Dwyer. Stamkos should of been penalized for that right then however, the Lightning captain was quick to apologize for the referee, but if this were a regular season game, that would have been an automatic penalty but this being the Stanley Cup final the officials let it go.

However the NHL Department of Player Safety will likely look at this and under under these rules, Stamkos could be looking at a suspension:


"40.4 Automatic Suspension – Category III – Any player who, by his actions, physically demeans an official or physically threatens an official by (but not limited to) throwing a stick or any other piece of equipment or object at or in the general direction of an official, shooting the puck at or in the general direction of an official, spitting at or in the general direction of an official, or who deliberately applies physical force to an official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an official during or immediately following an altercation shall be suspended for not less than three (3) games."
