Wild Acquire Zach Bogosian: Trade Impact

The Minnesota Wild have traded for defenseman Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning. In exchange, they gave up a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

This move follows an earlier trade today where the Wild sent Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks for a 2026 fifth-round pick and forward Adam Raška. Overall, the Wild added $25,000 to their salary cap, got a slightly better draft pick, and added a low-ceiling prospect in place of Addison by bringing in Bogosian.

Bogosian, aged 33, is in the last year of a three-year deal he signed with the Lightning in 2021. He has an $850,000 cap hit and is set to earn $1.05 million in actual salary this season. He's known for his defensive skills. It's important to note that Bogosian had a say in his trade destination, and the Wild were among his top ten choices.



This trade gives Bogosian a fresh start after winning the Stanley Cup with Tampa in 2020. He surprisingly hit waivers during the preseason but was later recalled to the NHL. He has played in just four out of 13 games for the Lightning this season, with minimal playing time and no points.


The trade has some personal significance, as Bogosian lives in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area during the offseason, and his older brother, Aaron, works in the Wild's front office. However, it's seen as a downgrade for the Wild as they acquire a veteran player with declining stats and part ways with a promising young defenseman. The Wild have taken this calculated risk to improve their defensive depth.
