Unfortunately, both for Kane and the Rangers, their postseason performance fell short, and in late June, it was disclosed that Kane was enduring severe hip pain, necessitating hip resurfacing surgery to address the damage. Such surgery typically demands four to six months of rehabilitation and recovery time.
Recent updates indicate that he is progressing well in his recovery. Kane announced that he will not engage in contract discussions with teams until late October after the season commences. He also expressed his desire to provide teams with more comprehensive medical information about his hip condition once he gauges his overall health.
There are high hopes that he can make a competitive return to the NHL, although it's worth noting that many players who have undergone this surgery have struggled to regain their previous form, with some even being forced into early retirement.
Several teams are interested in his services, but some are constrained by salary cap limitations, as Kane falls a few months short of his 35th birthday and does not qualify for a 35-plus contract.
Teams under consideration for Kane's potential landing spot including the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, given his history in the American market throughout his career, it is conceivable that he may end up with an American team. The Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers could be contenders vying for his services.
