Golden Knights' Goalie's Gesture Won Them The Hockey Game

Knights' goaltender, Logan Thompson, had a solid showing of hockey IQ in the team's recent win over Columbus. Thanks to Hockey Beast, we know that Thompson helped guide his team to the shootout win the other night against the Blue Jackets.

Following a big save in the shootout, Thompson turned to the bench and threw up the numbers four and three, signaling for #43 Paul Cotter to take the next shot.


According to Hockey Beast's post, Paul Cotter had only played in 14 career games, but is a good friend of Thompson from playing in the AHL together.


Thompson must have noticed something in the Blue Jackets' goaltender that would pair well with Cotter's strengths.

Luckily for Thompson and the Knights, Cotter got the job done and secured the 3-2 SO win.


This was not the first time that Thompson had shown such IQ, though.

Earlier this season, Mark Stone had a penalty shot against the Oilers. Prior to the shot, Thompson went up to him and gave him a bit of advice. He told Stone to go for the 5-hole on Oilers' goalie, Stuart Skinner.

Thompson knew Skinner from playing with him when they were younger, so he knew exactly where Stone needed to go. Stone listened to Thompson and went 5-hole for the goal.

It sure seems like Thompson can easily find himself coaching in the future.
