In Memory of Morgan Samuelsson: A Hockey Icon

The hockey world mourns Morgan Samuelsson, a former Quebec Nordiques prospect and renowned European player. His passing at 55 leaves a void felt by players and fans.

ZSC Lions' Heartfelt Tribute

ZSC Lions, a former club of Samuelsson's, shared a touching statement. "Morgan Samuelsson's passing is a shock to us all. He was not just a player, but a kind and giving individual who left a lasting impact," the ZSC Lions said.

An Unconventional Path

Drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in 1986, Samuelsson's journey took a unique route. He never played in North America, opting for a career in European hockey. He played for teams in Sweden, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, showcasing his dedication.

"It is shocking news that hit Swiss ice hockey shortly before the start of the season. After a long period of suffering, Morgan Samuelsson lost his fight and his heart stopped beating on Sunday night. Samuelsson passed away at home. Far too early – the Swede, who has lived in Switzerland for many years, only turned 55.

With Samuelsson's death, this world not only loses a legendary ice hockey player, but also a happy and kind-hearted person who gave his last shirt for others. Morgan Samuelsson was always an entertaining but also profound conversationalist. When his health was no longer good in the last few years, he endured it bravely and fought. Until his heart gave up on Sunday night." ZSC Lions said in a statement.

Legacy Beyond the Ice

After retiring, Samuelsson transitioned to coaching and management roles. He influenced teams in Sweden, Switzerland, and Italy. Despite health challenges, he remained a fighter and an inspiration.
